Do you know what is in what you are eating? Have you ever read the product label on the consumer goods that you are purchasing? How do you know if the product is naturally flavored, or if what you are purchasing actually claims more than artificial flavors, colors, and a name that states "Yummy!"? Do you know if there is pehaps a better alternative to the product you are thinking about buying right next to what is in your hand?
We know, time is short in the modern world, and you, as a consumer, or I as a consumer will do the same thing of throwing something into a shopping basket while hurrying through the supermarket, hoping we do not fall flat on our faces onto the slippery waxed floor, breaking our glasses that protect us from the camera-friendly lighting, or losing them twenty feet down the aisle, catching our ties, scarves, jewelry, belts or heels in the store fixtures, or something equally inane. We are so afraid of public embarrassment that we frequently purchase the products that the boss is touting, or what the co-worker in the next cubicle is pounding about being so yummy.
Then, again, there is the other kind of consumer, who reads food labels for recreation, almost, the one that the store owners laugh about visiting the shop, who buys nothing and knows everything about the product, and still ends up purchasing what is on sale. We do not want to end up being that kind of "stranded tourist" either.
